We are sad to report that Dr. West and his family have now relocated outside of California. We will miss him and his wonderful service to our patients. However, a previous colleague, Dr. Deborah E. Steinberg, OD, has accepted the position at Modesto Eye Center and will continue to provide exceptional care for our patients.
Dr. Sean T. West, OD, is an optometrist serving the Modesto Area. He grew up in Ripon, CA and attended California State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then attended the highly regarded Illinois College of Optometry where he excelled and earned several Honors, including Dean's List. Upon completion of his optometry doctorate, he returned to Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties, where he has been in private practice since 2002. Dr. West has earned an outstanding reputation for his thoroughness, exquisite attention to detail, and progressive treatments.
Dr. West is an experienced optometrist and holds therapeutics certificate in the State of California. His experience with many advanced contact lenses, and access to sophisticated ophthalmic instruments such as the ATLAS Corneal Topographer and the Visante Anterior Segment OCT, makes him unique in ability to deliver special care for difficult contact lens fits. Together with Dr. Ash, a cornea and refractive surgeon, as a team, they deliver specialty care for corneal ectasias such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration and post LASIK ectasia. Dr. West is also a certified orthokeratology practitioner, bringing an alternative to patients that may not be candidates for LASIK eye surgery.
Dr. West is a certified Orthokeratology practitioner. Ortho-K, also known as Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT), is the process of reshaping the cornea to correct for nearsightedness by wearing contacts. Sound like something new? It’s not. Ortho-K has actually been around over 20 years, just not very well known and not practiced by many doctors.
Simply by sleeping in specially designed contacts, prescriptions up to -5.00 diopters with minimal astigmatism can be corrected within a few days. The contacts are removed in the morning and patients are free of glasses and contacts all day long.
This is a great way for those who are looking to free themselves of glasses or who suffer from dryness or irritation from wearing contacts during the day. It’s also a great way for children or those who aren’t good LASIK candidates to free themselves of glasses.
The process is also completely reversible. If someone wants to consider LASIK later on, simply discontinue wear and the eye will return to its normal shape. An examination is necessary to see if Ortho-K is right for you.

In his time outside work, Dr. Sean West, enjoys a family life with his wife and 2 children. He coaches his children's baseball team and enjoys playing golf and baseball himself.
